Countdown to Star Wars, Episode IX
Note 4/14/2019: The finally released the name of the new film. The Rise of Skywalker. So the app has been updated to reflect that. Plus I added in some new backdrops!
Note 12/16/2017: What with The Last Jedi being out in the theaters, this timer is now set to count down to Episode IX. Some nice new additions have been made to the program too!
Note 12/27/2015: What with The Force Awakens being out in the theaters, this timer is now set to count down to Episode VIII. Named so, only because the movie doesn't have a title yet. When it does, I will update the app accordingly.
Note 10/30: A major update has been made to this app. There are now TWO widgets. I've added a 3x2 widget that shows more time information. It updates exactly the same as the original. So the countdown is not "live". It just shows the time as of the last refresh (which is once every few hours.)
This led to a Gadget version, suitable for blogs and other personal web pages (see below)
From the start, my son was saying, "Dad... You really need to make an app out of this." Of course, he was right. So I got to work on it.
Nothing is ever as easy as it first seems. Except this one. This was a piece of cake since I already had the program written. Twice.
The idea here is that I couldn't have just an app. I needed a widget too. I've done this sort of thing before, except that it was always the other way around. In this case, the primary app needed to be the full app. The widget is scaled down, and only counts days. If it were to update every second like the main app does, it would KILL your battery. So, what we have here is sort of like a summary in widget format, that you can click on to see the actual countdown. You can, of course forgo the widget altogether and just launch the app from it's icon.
