Information about this project:
Note 2020-01-01: Due to changes in security from Android, this app will no longer function. I have dropped support and removed it from all stores.
How many times have you been sitting there thinking of something and you say to yourself, "Man, I really need to send a reminder to myself to look that up, or do that thing", or whatever. So you grab your phone, and start the process of slogging through your various means of sending a message, be it text or email, and go through all the steps to finally send the message.
The thing is, it may be convenient that you can do it at all, but it's a lot of steps. and if you're in a rush, it's a bad experience.
Though you don't like to admit it, this probably happens a lot while you're driving. Now, I'm not suggesting that this app is a great idea while you're going 75mph down the highway. But when you have 15 seconds at a traffic light, it's the perfect time to be able to send yourself a Superfast Memo!
This app will send to either an email address or a text message. They use completely different methods to send one or the other. So the program will simply look at what you've put in the address line and determine the appropriate method. There is no sort of error checking, other than making sure that the fields are filled in. If there is a mistake in the number or email, the program will not tell you.
Information on message types
Text message: Your device will send the text message as a SMS message. As such, your device will create a thread in your default messaging program showing that the message was sent. So the record of the transmission will exist as if you sent it directly from that program.
Email message: The email is sent from an outside server (my website, actually). This app sends a message to that server to relay it as an email. So the email that ultimately arrives at the destination will have a return address of "[email protected]". You cannot reply to this email. If you don't receive the email after a minute or two, check you spam folder. There is a chance it ended up there.
Also, it should be noted that the record of this message is not saved anywhere other than where the email arrives. My relay script couldn't care less what you're sending. And it doesn't save anything. Perhaps my host holds a record of it, but I can't say that one way or the other.
In other words, if you're concerned about privacy issues, know that the app itself is not tracking or saving anything at all. The only records or evidence that exist are what are in your own email and your own device.
